Viracocha and other Gods

Description

Viracocha and other Gods, is the fifth in a series of seven digitally manipulated photo prints, inspired by Dante Alighieri's Inferno, vampire fiction, and Singapore's own, unique folklore. It forms the background for one of the pages of Camarilla Singapore, a gaming and improvised theatre troupe's new website.

This picture is taken from the perspective of the silent observer, studying the tense moods surrounding an argument at the train station. Like many people in the big city, Singaporeans have come to develop a sense of dissociation, of insularity, of apathy even. We would rather, to use a very local turn of phrase, "close an eye" to the situation. We'd much rather not be nosey, not get ourselves involved, even if it were for the greater good. It is a fundamentally selfish thing, an act of self-preservation perhaps, or a conditioned response to allow us to better cope with the terrors of the day?

Have we become perhaps like the other Gods, who frown upon direct intervention? A curious question, to be sure.
